If you own a registered vessel or a share in a registered vessel, you can use it as security for a loan or other valuable consideration. Please use this form to register a marine mortgage on your registered vessel.

If you are using your vessel as security and receiving a loan, you are called the mortgagor and if you are taking the vessel as security (which generally means you are giving the loan), you are the mortgagee.

If you want to mortgage your vessel, you must first make sure the vessel is registered in the Canadian Register of Vessels.
